Puerto Rican Music Genres
First task complete this easy Pre-Test of what you know.
1. Classical Music
During the conversion of Puerto Rico's to Christianity the only formal music was chants and religious music which are classical music.
2. Folk Music
The folk music deal with life, death, and everyday events of an agrarian society are one of the main themes.
3. Bomba and Plena
Bomba and Plena are described as a dialogue between the dancer and drummer.
4. Salsa
The major type of music coming out of Puerto Rico is salsa, the rhythm of the islands.
5. The Decima
The jíbaro that has his Island of Puerto Rico in his heart, reflects his emotions using decima's.
Aguinaldos are traditional Christmas tunes.
